Don't feel bad about gaining the weight. Sometimes no matter how healthy we eat, we still gain a lot of weight during pregnancy. Do you think it would have been better to starve yourself instead?

You'll lose the weight, don't worry. It does help to breast feed if you plan to do so. I know a lot of women who lost quite a bit of weight just due to breast feeding. Other than that, I would just start eating healthy and doing some kind of work out about 4-5 days a week. If you're looking for a specific diet, I would honestly go onto weightwatchers.com. I've tried them before, just to lose a few pounds, and it was such and easy diet to go by because you can eat any kind of food. Thing is, you have to stay within a certain amount of points each day/week. They have lots of recipes to help, too!

Good luck, you'll do great!

EDIT- BTW as response to another persons answer. Eating organic foods will not in general help you lose weight. Plenty of organic foods still aren't healthy for you. They still may contain lots of fats and sugars that you don't need. Organic means no chemicals, and it's not the chemicals that make us fat, it's the overeating. It's more about eating in moderation.

A balanced diet that is 500 more calories per day if breastfeeding. Breastfeeding helps you lose weight too. But if not breastfeeding, then you should have a balanced diet minus upto 500 calories from the amount of calories it takes to maintain your current weight.

For some woman breast feeding really helps the losing weight process….others have a different exerience because breast feeding will also make you want to eat A LOT more..

The best thing is to just eat ANY healthy foods and to NOT eat when your NOT hungry…exercise a lot and drink a ton of water!

I think the South Beach Diet. Just keep your folate up.

It is basically 2 weeks of zero bread/fruit and limited low fat dairy. Just lean meats and veggies.

Then in week 3 you start eating fruit again and WHOLE grain breads. What the diet does is gets your glucose levels under control and it makes it easier for your body to metabolize food. Also, it is considered safe for pregnant and nursing women (as long as they make sure they’re getting their folate/calcium). DOn’t worry there are desserts…even chocolate.

Between that and nursing you’ll drop the weight fast. I gained over 60 lbs (I drank JUICE like every day) and this worked like a charm. Nursing and moderate exercise (like walking with baby in a snuggli) will take care of most of the weight. The dieting will help with those those last 10 lbs.

Congrats and Good Luck!

If you are breastfeeding it is SO important that you do not starve yourself. Drink plenty of fluids, and eat a healthy balanced diet rich in proteins and fresh fruit & veggies. Exercise is always important, so include your baby in the workout. You will lose the weight in NO TIME!!

Take prenatals and drink lots of water. Get a good exercise dvd and do it everyday.
