Your vet got all sorts of freebies and gets financial "reasons" to boost it.
I have to note they actually banned the wet food here for a while, it's a Muslim country I live in at the moment, and Hills never saw a reason to list pork as an ingredient, when in fact there is pork in there. That's against the law. What else are they leaving off the ingredients list I wonder, if they can leave something like pork out?
A quick look at the first listed ingredients gives you all the info you need.
"Chicken By-Product Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Brewers Rice, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal,"
It's crap that cats can't digest most opf, and has no value to them as a food.
Choose something without grains and without by-product meal which is parts of an animal you don't even want to be feeding them like beaks and feet and what nobody else uses for anything good. I list Science Diet right up there with Meow Mix, I'd never feed it to my cats.
There's some great reading here:

What pretty kitty and ken said. Vets barely get a stitch of training in nutrition. They are ushually taught by people from pet food companies who simply say "healthy dogs should get adult food, such as so and so brand, dogs with this health problem should get this brand, and so on. The foods that vets reccomed barely have enough meat to keep your cat healthy. Always choose holistic good quality brands like merrick, innova and wellness which actually have good ingredients

Veterinarians have sponsors that they support too, my vet's office pushes Royal Canin food...stupid.
I whole-heartedly recommend Eukanuba across the board. I spend $20 every couple months, that's not too expensive if you consider it as less than $10 a month to feed your cat the best food. Never buy a food that doesn't have meat listed as its first ingredient! =) Good luck!

I prefer a mix of Royal Canin and Science Diet. I think Iam's is crap.

Whenever I'd try to change over from Science Diet to Iam's, my male cat would come down with a urinary tract infection. So now I never buy Iam's. This has happened with two different male cats I've had so I know it wasn't a coincidence.
